China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has issued the "strictest battery safety order in history," requiring batteries to "not catch fire or explode." The new standard further clarifies the temperature requirements, power-on/off status, observation time, and vehicle testing conditions for batteries under testing. Technical requirements have been adjusted from providing a thermal event alarm signal five minutes before a fire or explosion to not catching fire or exploding (alarm still required), and smoke not causing harm to occupants. The new standard will take effect on July 1, 2026.
