The PARAGON-HF trial revealed that central adiposity, assessed by waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), is almost universally prevalent in heart failure patients with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and is more strongly associated with worse outcomes than BMI. The study suggests WHtR should replace BMI in assessing clinically relevant fat mass in these patients.
Central adiposity is highly prevalent in HFpEF patients.
WHtR is more strongly linked to adverse heart failure outcomes than BMI.
WHtR may be a better measure of clinically relevant fat mass in HFpEF patients.
